Known as the saber-toothed tiger, saber-toothed cat, or saber-toothed lion, Smilodon is the most famous prehistoric animal and the most well-known saber-toothed cat. These animals lived millions of years ago during the Ice Age of the Pleistocene epoch. Some species were much larger than today's tigers. With its blade-like canine teeth and agile physique reminiscent of modern-day cats, the saber-toothed tiger is among the most iconic animals of the Ice Age. Saber-toothed tigers belonging to the extinct genus Smilodon lived in America, Asia, Africa and Europe. They disappeared only 10,000 years ago as a result of Earth's changing conditions and human-induced factors.
